About the game
Overwatch is a team-based hero shooter built around objectives and a changing roster of heroes. Matches ask teams to escort a payload, capture or defend ground, or control a moving objective. Each hero has a distinct weapon and abilities, and the result of a fight often turns on how those abilities overlap rather than raw damage alone. Tanks create space, damage heroes pressure angles and supports help a team survive or reposition.
Maps combine open lanes with flanking routes and high ground, rewarding teams that adjust their composition and timing. Ultimate abilities can break a defensive setup, but opponents may answer with protection, movement or their own coordinated play. Quick Play and Competitive offer different stakes, while Arcade modes change the rules and team sizes. The free-to-play live game has continued to add heroes, maps and modes since its 2022 relaunch.
